Jazz for Lovers | February 13 - 15
The Jazz Orchestra at Dr. Phillips Center enters its third full season of sold-out performances with four great weekends of jazz. As the orchestra grows in popularity, it also grows in reputation as one of the nation’s hottest jazz bands.
Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater grew from a now-fabled performance in March 1958 at the 92nd Street Y in New York City. Led by Alvin Ailey and a group of young African-American modern dancers, that performance changed forever the perception of American dance.
Gregory Porter and Ledisi | February 22
Known for his warm baritone vocals, Gregory Porter rose to acclaim in the 2010s with his earthy, cross-pollinated brand of jazz, soul, and gospel. A gifted singer of standards as well as more contemporary soul material, Porter has earned favorable comparisons to his idols Nat King Cole, Donny Hathaway, and Stevie Wonder.
Very few singers over the last fifty years have matched unassailable artistry of Gladys Knight. This seven-time Grammy winner has enjoyed #1 hits in Pop, Gospel, R&B and Adult Contemporary, and has triumphed in film, television and live performance.
